Women In Islam, Inc. facilitated a three-hour workshop with 30 New York City public school teachers who were learning about ways to use the New York Public Library system to teach about religion in the classroom. The workshop took place at the renowned Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture. Participants were introduced to the beliefs and rituals of Islam, and had an in-depth discussion of topics such as the racial and ethnic diversity among Muslims, women, how to answer students’ questions about Islam and be more supportive of Muslim students in the classroom.
